The minister for information and MP for Ofoase Ayirebi on Monday at the Media Capacity Enhancement Programme forum in Accra, addressed the need to build professional and ethical journalism.
For the minister, this is especially pertinent after the successful rollout of the maiden edition of the programme in Kumasi, which seeks to boost the competencies of practicing journalists in the country.
Stakeholders and technical support shared their thoughts on how to improve the implementation of the programme.
The Minister mentioned, that this initiation birthed the rollout of the University of Media Arts and Communication that is bridging the gap between Academia and industry capacity players.
The Minister says, “Majority of practicing journalists although articulate and intentional have not had the benefit of formal journalism”.
He urges that journalists take advantage of the insights and knowledge acquired from the programme not only to build themselves but also to build the media community.
The GJA President, Mr. Albert Kwabena Dwumfour had admonished journalists to be guided by their code of conduct and ethics as we enter the pressure-filled election year and also educate the citizenry of the priority given to Ghanaian elections.
