President John Dramani Mahama has called on Czech businesses to explore strategic investment opportunities in Ghana’s agriculture, digital economy, and broader African markets, positioning Ghana as the gateway to the continent under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Speaking at the Czech-Ghana Business Cooperation Seminar in Accra, President Mahama highlighted the vast economic potential that exists between the two countries, inviting Czech expertise in machinery, automotive components, and agro-processing technologies to help Ghana modernise its economy and boost value addition in key sectors.
“We readily welcome Czech expertise in machinery, automotive components, and advanced agro-processing technologies to help Ghana add substantial value to our abundant agricultural produce and create integrated supply chains that benefit both our economies,” President Mahama said.
By leveraging Czech innovation, Ghana is seeking to deepen agro-industrial transformation and open new pathways for growth. The President believes such cooperation will not only benefit the Ghanaian economy but also create stronger ties between Europe and Africa.
Turning to digital transformation, Mahama noted that Ghana’s reforms, including the repeal of the 1% e-levy on electronic transactions and broader tax measures, are creating fertile ground for growth and innovation in digital finance.
“The repeal of the 1% e-levy on electronic transactions, alongside broader tax reforms, promises further growth and inclusion in digital financial services,” he stated.
He pointed out that Czech companies with their strong track record in fintech, cybersecurity, and digital infrastructure development are well positioned to support Ghana’s efforts to close the digital divide and build a more inclusive financial ecosystem.
“Czech companies’ expertise in fintech, cybersecurity, and digital infrastructure development will be invaluable in accelerating this transformation,” President Mahama said. “These advancements will not only bridge the digital divide but also support the creation of a more inclusive financial ecosystem, benefiting Ghana and the wider African market.”
Expanding on the broader trade landscape, President Mahama spotlighted the immense opportunities that the African Continental Free Trade Area presents. He urged Czech businesses to seize the chance to expand not just within Ghana, but across Africa’s growing markets of over 1.3 billion people.
“Ghana’s membership in the African Continental Free Trade Area presents a unique opportunity for businesses in the Czech Republic to expand their footprint, not only in Ghana but across the entire African continent,” he said. “With over 1.3 billion people in the African market, businesses entering through Ghana will have access to a growing and dynamic market.”
He cited Ghana’s diversification of non-traditional exports such as processed foods, textiles, and manufactured goods as key indicators of the country’s commitment to deepening intra-African trade and fostering economic resilience.
President Mahama expressed optimism that Czech-Ghanaian partnerships, especially in agriculture and digital sectors, could be the foundation for broader cooperation under AfCFTA bridging trade between Africa and Europe and creating sustainable economic futures for both nations.
“The African Continental Free Trade Area offers tremendous opportunities for businesses to reach new markets,” he concluded. “Ghana’s position as a central player in this continental framework is crucial for unlocking Africa’s trade potential, and Czech companies have a pivotal role to play in that growth.”
