Two Statesmen express concern over corruption among public officials

Two Statesmen , Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe and Brigadier-General Joseph Nunoo-Mensah (rtd), have voiced their concerns regarding what they perceive as a growing issue of corruption, especially among political office holders in Ghana.

Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has expressed his belief that Ghana is plagued by corruption, and accused ministers within the current Akufo-Addo administration of involvement in corrupt practices and living extravagant lifestyles.

Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe pointed out that government officials were living lavish lifestyles and accumulating wealth that couldn’t be adequately explained, while a significant portion of the population struggled with poverty and lacked access to gainful employment.

During a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, both Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe and Brigadier-General Nunoo–Mensah (rtd), a former National Security Advisor, addressed the issue of “The State of Ghana.”

They expressed their concerns that the current state of affairs, particularly the corruption and socioeconomic disparities, could have a detrimental impact on the nation’s security if not adequately addressed.

They also voiced their concerns regarding the prevalence of tribalism, nepotism, and parochial interests, particularly within the current government.

“How do ministers hoard cash in foreign and local currencies in their homes, acquire properties in prime areas of Accra and other parts of the country, drive the most luxurious cars and live extravagantly and expect our youth who remain largely without meaningful employment to be satisfied,” Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe said.

Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe and Brigadier-General Nunoo–Mensah (rtd) emphasized the importance of good governance, anti-ethnocentrism, honesty, probity, accountability, anti-corruption measures, and integrity in political leadership for the success of the country.

“Ideally, we should be happy about the recent democracy we are enjoying. However, the experience of Brig. Gen Nunoo-Mensah and myself, Captain Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, in the dark days of this dear country of ours gives us a cause to worry about. In fact, in the old days of arms, we didn’t sleep soundly at night,” he said.
