Kojo Sarpong, the founder of the Buz Stop Boys speaking to RGGNEWS, describes Accra’s sanitation state as an eyesore, emphasizing that the rainy season worsens the issue by washing waste from gutters onto the streets. He stresses the importance of Ghanaians being intentional about proper waste disposal and urges the government to provide more refuse bins at strategic locations while empowering district assemblies to manage sanitation effectively.
Also, Mr. George Yorke head of policy at WaterAid Ghana acknowledges the severity of the sanitation problem, highlighting Ghana’s lagging position compared to global sanitation goals set for 2030.
The current state of sanitation in Accra is dire due to inadequate waste management infrastructure in households, and intensifying during the rainy season. Unapproved construction further compounds the problem, contributing to flooding in the city.
