The Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) team, led by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has received a comprehensive dossier detailing a significant financial scandal within Ghana’s National Service Scheme. The dossier, presented by The Fourth Estate and the Media Foundation for West Africa, estimates that fraudulent ‘ghost names’ have cost the nation over GHS500 million.
In a Facebook post dated December 20, 2024, Mr. Ablakwa expressed profound gratitude to the presenting organizations for their exceptional patriotism, stating, “Together, we shall reset Ghana and recover all loot.”
The ORAL Team, created to receive and investigate acts of suspected corruption reported by the public, is expected to play a pivotal role in enhancing transparency and accountability within the incoming administration.
This initiative aligns with President-elect John Mahama’s commitment to combating corruption through robust measures, including utilizing both local and international expertise to investigate and prosecute corruption cases.
During a Governance Forum in Accra in October, Mahama emphasized his dedication to eradicating corruption, stating, “Operation Recover All the Loot will investigate, and prosecute the persons involved in corruption, using both local and foreign expertise to achieve this objective.”
The ORAL team encourages public participation in the fight against corruption. Individuals with relevant information are urged to contact the team via the toll-free number 0800 900 111, through their website at www.oralgh.org, or by email at public@oralgh.org
This development marks a significant step towards enhancing transparency and accountability within Ghana’s public sector, aiming to restore public trust and ensure the effective utilization of national resources.
