We cannot afford to be disunited even briefly after the results are declared on Saturday, says the Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Stephen Ntim.
According to him, all members of the NPP must guard against any conduct, actions, or inactions likely to take the party on a path of apathy and disunity.
Speaking to the media at a press conference today, Mr Ntim stressed the need for all party faithfuls to rally behind the eventual winner on Saturday as it was a necessary condition for success in the 2024 general elections.
He further urged the four aspirants to work together to ensure the party’s success in the 2024 general elections regardless of the November 4 elections.
“Rallying behind the eventual winner on Saturday is a necessary condition for our success in 2024 because it has the effect of promoting unity and healing the wounds that the internal contest has opened up,” he explained.
Mr Ntim added that the alternative to the NPP government was scary as the NDC had not provided any policy to address the prevalent youth unemployment in the country.
“It is evident that what stands in our way to a third consecutive electoral victory is ourselves, our actions, and our inactions,” he stressed.
On transforming the party, he underscored the need for NPP members to reconnect with their passion to serve, as it was the driving force behind the exploits of the forebears of the NPP.
“We must undertake to let go of personal differences and disagreements. In other words, we must each prioritize the larger interest of the Party ahead of our hurts and egos,” Mr. Ntim said.
Meanwhile, the NPP is expected to elect its flagbearer on Saturday, November 4, ahead of the 2024 general elections, with over 200,000 delegates voting for four candidates vying for the slot.
Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is tipped to win Saturday’s presidential primary. His closest contender is Kennedy Agyapong, MP for Assin Central.
Also, in the race for the flagbearership slot are former Minister for Agriculture, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto and former Mampong MP Francis Addai-Nimoh.
