Mr. Richard Ahiagbah, Communications Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has criticized the government’s decision to revoke public sector appointments made after December 7, 2024. He described the move as unjust and urged President John Dramani Mahama to reverse the directive in line with his oath of office.
His comments follow a directive issued by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, nullifying all appointments and recruitments made in the final weeks of former President Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration. The directive cited concerns over compliance with governance principles and the government’s stance on end-of-tenure appointments.
Other NPP officials have also condemned the move. The party’s National Organizer, Henry Nana Boakye, described the revocations as unlawful and contradictory to the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) campaign promise of job creation. He argued that public sector recruitment follows a structured process, and reversing these appointments undermines the integrity of Ghana’s civil service.
The directive has reignited debate over governance and employment security in Ghana. Critics warn that such actions disrupt lives and set a troubling precedent for future administrations.
