The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has dispelled claims by Alan Kyeremanten that the party has been hijacked by a selected group of Party leaders and elders, and government appointees behind the curtain power brokers.

The NPP disagreed with the assertion stating that the selection of flagbearers for political parties in Ghana had been the preserve of a privileged few until it took the bold decision to decentralize the process by expanding the electoral college.

Speaking at a Press Conference at the NPP Headquarters, the General Secretary of the NPP, Mr. Justin Kodua Frimpong said the National Council, the appropriate body mandated by the Party’s Constitution to make a determination on the date and venue of the delegates’ congress did not violate the Constitution by voting against the proposal for the use of a single venue for the elections.

He expressed the NPP’s disappointment in the manner Mr. Kyeremanten announced his exit from the party as he should have at least he should’ve given the party some prior notice.

“The Party wants to believe that his decision to hold the press conference to resign without first informing the leadership of the Party suggests that he has made a premeditated and irrevocable decision to resign from the Party,” he said.

In recognition of Mr. Kyeremanten’s immense contributions to the growth and development of the NPP, the General Secretary said the party respects his decision and extends their gratitude for the services he rendered to the NPP and the nation.

He added that the NPP has always been a dynamic and resilient political party, and this moment serves as an opportunity for the party to demonstrate its unity, fortitude, and unwavering commitment to the principles upon which it was founded.

He further commended the Party’s rank and file for remaining steadfast and openly rallying behind the party as it navigates this setback.

“To all Party faithful who were hitherto supporting Mr. Kyerematen by virtue of his membership in the Party, though it is disappointing and distressing, we urge you to continue supporting the Party in our quest to break the eight (8),” he noted.
