Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, who has ruled with an unquestioned grip for the past nine years, has won reelection to a third, six-year term in office, election authorities announced on Monday.
Sisi recorded a landslide victory, securing 89.6% of the vote, the National Election Authority said. However, the enthusiasm displayed by local media and Sisi’s press conference does not reflect public sentiment, FRANCE 24’s correspondent said.
“They [Egyptian people] felt it was a show, they felt that under Sisi over the past 30 years things have become harder”, he said.
