After many years of service to the NPP and Ghana as a whole. Some long-serving NPP MPs have decided not to seek re-election as Members of Parliament.
Dan Botwe, MP for Okere Constituency in the eastern region has served close to 16 years and has declared not to contest for NPP Member of Parliament primaries due to “personal reason” he stated.
Joseph Osei- Owusu the current 2nd Deputy Speaker of Parliament has also served as an MP for Bekwai Constituency in the Ashanti region for about 16 years but has stated his intent not to contest as a member of Parliament anymore.
Samuel Atta Akyea has also stated that he is no more contesting as an MP. The MP for Abuakwa South Constituency in the Eastern region and was a member of the 2009 class of parliamentarians.
Kennedy Ohene Agyapong MP for Assin Central Constituency in the Central region after about 24 years of being in Parliament has announced an end to his Parliamentary Service. His reason is to focus on his ambition towards presidential position.
The longest serving MP, Mr. Osei Kyei Mensah- Bonsu and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs has mentioned that he has decided not to contest as an MP again at the end of his tenure. It will be recorded that he served for 28 years when he completes his service as a Member of Parliament for the Suame Constituency in 2024.
Among others also voluntarily bowing out include Mr. Kwasi Amoako Atta MP for Atiwa West, Dr. Kwaku Afriyie MP for Sefwi Wiaso, Mr. Emmanuel Marfo the MP for Oforikrom, the MP for Atwima Nwabiagya, MP for Tema West Carlos Ahenkorah, the New Juaben North MP Mr. Nana Kwasi Adjei Boateng, William Owuraku Aidoo MP for Afigya Kwabre South, Mr. Johnson Adu MP for Ahafo Ano South-West, Mr. Francis Manu-Adabor MP for Ahafo South-East, Mr. Suleman Sanid MP for Ahafo Ano North, Mr. Kojo Kum MP for Ahanta West and the MP for Kwabre East Madam Francisca Oteng.
A total number of 18 incumbent Members of Parliament have honourably stepped out of the NPP parliamentary primaries race.
