Richard Ahiagbah, the Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged the Volta Region to reassess its long-standing support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as Ghana’s December 7 election approaches.
In a social media post, Ahiagbah questioned the benefits of the region’s three-decade alliance with the NDC, encouraging voters to consider shifting their support to the NPP or other parties.
While acknowledging that the Volta Region is a stronghold for the NDC, Ahiagbah contrasted this with the Ashanti Region, which is known for its loyalty to the NPP. He argued that the NDC has taken the Volta Region for granted, while the NPP has demonstrated a stronger commitment to its base in the Ashanti Region, creating what he referred to as a respectful partnership.
Mr. Ahiagbah urged voters in the Volta Region to “liberate” themselves from what he described as an unproductive relationship with the NDC, suggesting that the region’s development has stagnated under NDC support.
He called for votes in favour of the NPP’s presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as well as NPP parliamentary candidates, or for consideration of any other candidate and party outside the NDC.
