I am confident Dr Mahamadu Bawumia can take on the National Democratic Congress says president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
According to him, he was very confident that Dr. Bawumia can unite the New Patriotic Party (NPP) with the assistance of Kenedy Agyapong, Dr Afriye Akoto and Francis Addai-Nimoh to defeat the NDC for the third time.
Addressing delegates at the Accra Sports Stadium, he commended the Vice President, Dr. Bawumia on his successful victory as the new flagbearer of the NPP whilst calling for a united front amongst the rank and file of the party.
“Congratulations, Mr. Vice President flagbearer. 16 years of work for the party in opposition and in government has been rewarded by the party with this leadership that has been confirmed on you,” he said.
Meanwhile, delegates of the NPP from across the country went to the polls on Saturday, November 4, 2023, to determine who would become the party’s flagbearer for the 2024 elections.
The candidates included Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP), Kennedy Agyapong, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Agric Minister, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and Francis Addai-Nimoh, former Bantama MP.
Dr. Bawumia won the poll with 118,210 votes, representing 61.47, while his closest contender, Mr. Agyapong, received 71,996 votes, representing 37.41%.
Dr. Afriyie Akoto, who placed a distant third, received 1,459 votes, representing 0.76%, while Addai-Nimoh garnered a mere 781 votes, representing 0.38%.
