The Ministry of Health has handed over the case of alleged medical misconduct at the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Attorney General’s Department for further investigation.
This decision was made by the Minister of Health, Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, after a thorough investigation by the Ghana Health Service (GHS) revealed that certain hospital staff was involved in inappropriately transferring a patient to Ojobi in the Central Region. The patient was abandoned in the bush, which led to her death.
The GHS report concluded that the staff involved did not act appropriately and recommended internal disciplinary action. However, due to the seriousness of the incident, which resulted in loss of life, the Ministry has decided that further investigation is necessary.
The Ministry has sought the assistance of the Attorney General’s Department to assess the responsibility of the staff involved and to determine the necessary legal actions. The CID has also been involved in conducting a more thorough investigation into the matter.
The Ministry has reiterated its commitment to the recommendations made by the GHS committee and emphasized its dedication to maintaining the highest standards of healthcare in Ghana. It also emphasized that incidents such as this must not be repeated.
