Member of Parliament for Assin Central Constituency and Chairman of the Defence and Interior Committee, Ken Agyapong has issued a statement addressing the recent viral video in which he called the New Patriotic Party he belongs to as “corrupt”.

In the video, he was heard making remarks about the New Patriotic Party (NPP) which he seeks to lead as flagbearer and corruption in the country.

In his statement, Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong vehemently denied the accuracy of the video, asserting that it was a “complete and unfortunate misrepresentation of his actual message”.

He claimed that the remarks in question were made during a private event held in Kumasi with a small group of NPP communicators who had organized a fundraising event for him over the weekend.

At the event, he said he expressed his concern about the performance of NPP communicators and acknowledged that every government might have its share of corruption cases, especially over an 8-year period.

However, he emphasized that these issues were being addressed transparently by the authorities. He lamented that the opposition, along with the mass media and social media, was manipulating these cases to create the false impression that the NPP was “involved in rampant corruption”.

Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong stressed that the video had been edited to purposefully create disaffection towards him and the Akufo-Addo government. He urged the public not to be misled by the supposed false information and lies circulating in the media, particularly on social media platforms.

He expressed his frustration at how the NPP was unfairly portrayed compared to the opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He also recognized President Akufo-Addo’s commitment to combating corruption through deeds and institutional reforms and acknowledged the challenges in this endeavor.

Ken Agyapong in concluding his statement affirmed his commitment to the NPP and stated his commitment to lead the party in the upcoming election against “John Mahama and the NDC in the showdown on December 7, 2024.” he said.
