Former Speaker of Parliament, Professor Aaron Mike Ocquaye, has criticized the Minority’s call to remove four MPs from Parliament for their decision to run as independent candidates in the upcoming December elections.
The Minority is pushing for the seats of Cynthia Morrison (Agona West), Kwadwo Asante (Suhum), and Peter Yaw Kwakye Ackah (Amenfi Central) to be declared vacant. They also argue that the Fomena seat should be declared vacant due to the incumbent’s intention to run under the NPP’s banner in 2024.
However, in an interview with Joy News, Prof. Ocquaye, who removed an NPP MP under similar circumstances four years ago, dismissed the Minority’s demand, stating that they have no legal basis to move a motion affecting members of the opposing party.
“It’s wrong because the law doesn’t benefit them. He [Haruna Iddrisu] has no locus because he doesn’t belong to the party involved. Is it for you to say there’s a problem in my house when I say there isn’t?” he argued.
