The Community Court of Justice, ECOWAS will host a sensitization campaign in Accra in January 2024. The Republic of Ghana is one of the only two countries that have been selected to host this edition of the campaign.
The sensitization programme in Member States of the Community is an annual activity of the Court.
The campaign enables the Court to engage with the citizens by creating an awareness of its existence, enable citizens to take ownership of the Court as well as avail themselves of its services, particularly for the preservation of their human rights, one of its four mandates. The Court proposes to hold the programme from 8th January 2024 with the delegation of the Court arriving on Sunday, 7th January 2024.
During the programme, officials of the Court will engage with the media through dedicated programmes on radio and television, Law students (University of Ghana and GIMPA) in order to improve their awareness of the Court. The media component of the campaign through the press, radio and television, are designed to reach out to the people especially at the grassroots. During the weeklong programme, the delegation of the Court will also pay a courtesy call on the President of the GBA and use the opportunity to engage with members of the Association at its secretariat.
The meetings will provide an opportunity for the delegation to make presentations on certain aspects of the Court, which will enrich the knowledge of participants about its specificities.
