The Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation (MoCD) is making significant strides in promoting the National Girls-In-ICT (GIICT) Programme in the Ashanti Region. Under the leadership of Naa Korkoi Essah, the Ministry’s Head of Public Relations, the initiative has been engaging with various media outlets in Kumasi to raise awareness about the program’s impact and benefits.
The GIICT Programme, themed “Leadership,” is designed to bridge the gender digital divide by empowering young girls with vital ICT skills. The programme focuses on providing girls with essential knowledge in areas such as computer programming, game development, animation, website development, and foundational digital skills. It aims to build their confidence and prepare them for future opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
Richard Asiamah, the Regional Manager for the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), emphasized the government’s dedication to narrowing the gender gap in technology and highlighted GIFEC’s contributions to the success of the initiative.
Anthoinet Ohene-Amoah, a Web Master and Lecturer at the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (GI-KACE), praised the programme for its role in inspiring young girls to embrace technology and innovation, setting the foundation for a new generation of female leaders in the digital sector.
This media outreach is part of a broader effort to engage parents, educators, and community leaders, ensuring sustained support for the programme and its expansion across the country.
