Parliament has approved a loan of $338 million to expand the Accra-Tema motorway, the George Walker Bush Highway, and the Nsawam road.

The project which is a joint venture between Maripoma Limited and Ghana Infrastructure Fund will span about 3 years or more depending on how the project goes.

This follows several complaints by motorists and residents about the deteriorating state of the road, which ends up slowing down travel time.

Some motorists on the Accra-Tema motorway interacted with the RGG News team and expressed their frustration over the road’s poor state and welcomed its expansion.

A driver by name Babayi Evan said the expansion and fixing of the road was long overdue considering its construction some 50 years ago.

He was concerned over the use of asphalt to patch the existing potholes on the motorway as it was a concrete road.

“If not for Ghana I would not have seen a concrete road being patched with asphalt. The motorway has caused us drivers to always buy spare parts,” he lamented.

He appealed to the government to ensure the contractors complete the project within the stipulated time.
Another driver by name Nana Kwame was excited over the government’s efforts to fix the Accra-Tema Motorway as it would help drivers cut down cost on their vehicle repairs.

He added the road has been in a deplorable state for several years now hence the need for “the contractors to complete the project on time so the road usage can be enjoyable.”

An Okada rider, Morro Salisu appealed to the government to construct a footbridge over the Accra-Tema motorway at the ’18 junction’ to reduce the number of accidents that occur there.
