The Ministry of Health has officially launched a five-year National Surgical Obstetric and Anesthesia Plan (NSOAP), a significant initiative aimed at enhancing surgical care across the country. This strategic move aligns with the World Health Assembly Resolution 68, which sets the goal of achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by 2030.

Richard Ahiagbah, Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), praised the Ministry’s efforts and financial commitment to the cause in a post on X. He stated, “We commend the Ministry of Health for its commitment of $503 million to this Resolution, but we urge them to intensify the inclusion of Ghanaians as required by the National Health Policy document in the design, implementation, and regulation of the plan.”

Ahiagbah emphasized the universal necessity of healthcare, asserting, “Healthcare is a universal need and must be readily available in times of need.”

The NSOAP aims to address critical gaps in surgical, obstetric, and anesthesia services, ensuring that these essential healthcare components are accessible to all Ghanaians. The plan reflects a concerted effort to improve overall health outcomes and support the country’s progress toward UHC.
