Ghana is set to commemorate its 68th Independence Anniversary with a series of activities, culminating in a ceremonial parade at the Forecourt of the Presidency on March 6, 2025.
The National Celebrations Planning Committee (NCPC) has outlined key events, beginning with commemorating the 28th February Crossroad Shooting Incident on Friday, February 28. This will be followed by the finals of a nationwide school quiz competition on March 2, a national debate competition on March 4, and the President’s School Children Awards Programme on March 5.
As part of efforts to engage the public, particularly the youth, the NCPC’s Communications Subcommittee will roll out educational content across television, radio, and social media ahead of the wreath-laying ceremony on February 28. The campaign aims to rekindle interest in the historic event, which saw three ex-servicemen shot during a peaceful protest in 1948.
Additionally, an X-space conversation will be held on the theme “The Changing Face of Civil Protests in Ghana: Lessons from the Past and Present,” with media outlets encouraged to highlight discussions around the anniversary.
The wreath-laying ceremony will take place at Nationalism Park in Accra at 8 a.m. on February 28, with a live broadcast and online streaming.
The NCPC has called on the public and media to actively participate in the celebrations, with further updates on the anniversary activities to be provided in due course.
