Four by-passes currently under construction on the Accra-Kumasi High are making good progress.
The four, covering a total distance of 45 Kilometres include the 13.5Km Konongo by-pass, the 11.6Km Osino by-pass, the 6.1Km Anyinam by-pass, and the 10.6Km Enyiresi by-pass; and are part of the ongoing efforts by government to dualize the Accra-Kumasi highway.
Project
The project is estimated at GHC1.9 billion and being executed by eight selected contractors including Joshhob Construction Company Limited, Hardwick Limited, Justmoh Construction Limited, First Sky Limited, Memphis Metropolitan Limited, Resources Access Limited, Kofi Job Company Limited and Nag Fairmount Construction Limited.
The project, when completed, would have significant impact on the transportation sector, particularly in movement of goods and people to other parts of the country, as well as reduce traffic congestion and accidents and enhance road safety.
In addition, there will be reduced travel time spent on the road as a result of vehicular congestion and accidents on that stretch. Commuters will now travel for short hours as compared to previous travel hours of five to six hours by road.
Visit
On an inspection of the project sites by the Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Attah, in the company of Engineers at the Ministry, he was satisfied with the progress of work, and commended the eight Ghanaian contractors for delivering quality work, emphasizing the government’s commitment to promoting local content in project execution.
The Minister noted that the construction of the by-passes were a major priority of government and thanked the selected contractors for their continuous partnership with government towards developing the country’s infrastructure.
The full project has been divided into four Lots. Each Lot has two construction firms working on each of the dual carriageways with the goal of expediting work for its timely completion.
The timely completion of the project will bring relief to the Konongo township who experience vehicular congestion particularly on market days, resulting in damaged goods, and a challenge for travelers due to pressure on the Konongo stretch.
The Minister emphasized that the government aims to dualize all stem roads in Ghana to improve travel convenience for drivers and commuters.
He re-emphasized that government commits to building the capacities of local contractors and ensuring that they can work on road projects of various magnitudes in the country.
The Minister called for continuous support and noted that the necessary measures are in place to sustain funding for the project to prevent delays.
The Engineer of Kofi Job Construction Limited, Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, stated that they were faced with the challenge of larger swampy areas than originally anticipated.s.
