The AFCON 2024 play-in round will take place on January 14, 2024, in la Cote d’Ivoire. AFCON brings continental glory to 24 national teams trying to outdo themselves to win the title of Africa’s No. 1 team.
The Black Star’s coach Chris Hughton has finally released his 27-man squad for the TotalEnergies African Cup of Nations tournament across Ghana’s western border in Cote d’Ivoire.
RGGNEWS was out and about to glean the views of Ghanaian football lovers on the Black Stars 27-man AFCON squad.
For Mr. Gyeke – a Ghanaian football fanatic, this is a “Great selection, capable of pulling the strings at the Afcon tournament, provided the Coach and his Technical handlers get their selections right and also their tactics. Note that, coaches now play a major role in the identity (Style) of play of a team.
Ghana has lost its identity of play since Asamoah Gyan, Muntari, Stephen Appiah, Essien and others transitioned off the team.”
However, he mentions that he has doubts regarding the goalkeepers.”Richard Ofori is good with a fantastic experience at the pole, but Jojo Wollacott and Lawrence Atizigi do not meet the standards. Also, we have to find a way to properly transition André Dede Ayew from the team. He has contributed his mark over the years and its time he bows out of the team.”
Mr. Kwame Tawiah similarly mentioned to RGGNEWS that this squad representing Ghana at Afcon is one that needs to be critically observed. For him he commends the selection of coach and his team.
“The 27-man squad will do well but there is the need for them to be thirsty for the cup rather than any other team. Looking at our group and the opponents that we will be facing they must increase their thirst and zeal for the cup to emerge victorious.”
Mohammed Yakubu Fedaws also shared his views. He says “With the squad list provided by our coach Chris Hughton, I believe Ghana has the chance or the upper hand to qualify from our group and even do well in the entire tournament. The only team that will be a worry to us in our group is Egypt. And I believe Ghana and Egypt will qualify from the group. Cape Verde and Mozambique will be out.”
From RGGNEWS’ interaction with Ghanaian football fans, there is hope for the Black Stars at the African continent’s soccer meet – AFCON 2024.
