CEOs, youth leaders, and other aspiring women leaders in the country have met in Accra to dialogue on how to ensure women’s inclusion and participation in governance.
At a conference dubbed “WOMEN IN GOVERNANCE NATIONAL DIALOGUE”, the various speakers said the laying of the Affirmative Action (Gender Equality) Bill, 2023 in Parliament is an opportunity for all women to unite and push for the passage of the bill.
The Women in Governance National Dialogue is a platform to rally women in politics, governance, public administration, and women’s rights and advocacy organizations to address the issue of underrepresentation of women in governance and politics.
This platform also brings together interest groups to advocate inclusivity in governance and the political party system. This conference, held at Parliament House in Accra, discussed the need for the passage of the Affirmative Action (Gender Equality) Bill, 2023 by Ghana’s Parliament, to guarantee increased participation of women and leadership opportunities for women across all public and political levels.
As the country heads to the polls in December, organizers hope the dialogue will bring additional force to issues surrounding women in the 2024 parliamentary and presidential elections in Ghana.
Various speakers at the conference said time is right for Ghana to bridge the equity divide.
The women later unveiled ‘Ghana’s Leadership Revolution: Rallying Women for Transformation in Governance’ pact, to bind them together to do better in ensuring women’s inclusivity in the country.
The dialogue was jointly organized by Eve International Foundation, Affirmative Action Bill Coalition, and OXFAM. Participants included politicians, female CEOs, youth leaders and other aspiring women leaders in the country.
