The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) released the provisional results for candidates who sat for the WASSCE for school candidates, 2023 (Ghana Only Version) on 18th of December 2023.
WAEC statistics show an increase in performance of candidates in the Four (4) Core Subjects; Mathematics, Science, English and Social Studies. From the performance status of candidates as stated by the council –
“A total of 448,674 candidates made up of 212,453 males and 236,221 females from 975 schools wrote the examination. This figure is 5.8% higher than the 2022 entry figure of 422,883. A total of 3,404 (0.75%) were absent from the examination.”
In the statement from WAEC, 4,878 results of candidates have been blocked for not returning learning materials given them by their schools.
The table below establishes the fluctuating trends in the performance of candidates in English, Mathematics, Integrated Science and Social Studies over the last four (4) years.
Nonetheless, WAEC has withheld and cancelled over 4,000 results of candidates for indulging in examination malpractice. The WASSCE results for 2023 so far has been the best in the last four years. It recorded new schools as the top 20 schools in the WASSCE chart for 2023.
