Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang emphasized recognizing and nurturing young scholars while representing President John Dramani Mahama at the President’s Independence Day Awards ceremony in Accra. The event, held on March 5, honored 53 outstanding students, including those with special needs, for their academic excellence and contributions to their schools and communities.
Dignitaries in attendance included the Minister for Education, members of the Council of State, traditional rulers, and a representative from Nestlé.
In her remarks, Vice President Opoku-Agyemang congratulated the awardees and encouraged them to stay committed to their studies. She urged them to recognize the efforts of those who have supported their academic journeys.
She commended the students for their awareness of national issues, especially their calls for access to quality education, good healthcare, and child protection, as well as their recognition of their roles in nation-building.
Vice President Opoku-Agyemang described the ceremony as a reminder of the significance of investing in education and empowering the next generation to contribute meaningfully to the country’s development.
