Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has called for Africa to take charge of its education policies and reduce dependency on external funding.
During a meeting with representatives from the Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA) and the African Development Bank (AfDB), she emphasized the importance of developing policies that address Africa’s unique challenges instead of simply adopting foreign models.
She outlined key areas for reform, including the need to strengthen teacher training, balance quality with access to education, promote research, and integrate African languages into the educational system to enhance learning outcomes.
The delegation expressed gratitude for being included in the National Education Forum and supported the call for self-sufficient education funding across the continent.
