Samuel Tettey, the Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) responsible for operations, confirmed that voting started on time at approximately 99% of polling stations nationwide at 7am.
During a press briefing on Saturday, December 7, Tettey updated the public on the progress of the electoral process and expressed satisfaction with the initial turnout. He attributed the timely commencement to careful logistical planning and thorough preparation that ensured all polling stations were ready for the start of voting.
“We are pleased to report that 99% of polling stations opened at 7am as scheduled, reflecting our dedication to an efficient and orderly electoral process,” Tettey said.
The Deputy Chairperson also reassured the public of robust security measures, emphasizing the presence of sufficient security personnel at all polling locations to maintain order and safeguard voters and election staff.
He noted that the cooperative efforts between the Electoral Commission and security agencies have been instrumental in maintaining smooth operations.
Mr. Tettey called on voters to exercise patience and adhere to established rules and guidelines at polling stations. He expressed confidence in the Commission’s capability to oversee an election that is credible, peaceful, and transparent.
