In January 2022, when a collision between a vehicle transporting approximately 10 tonnes of mining explosives to the Chirano Mines and a motorcycle led to the detonation of the explosives in the Appiatse community, it resulted in the tragic loss of 16 lives.
Following this devastating event, the government promptly initiated the reconstruction efforts.
Today, on the 2nd of May 2024, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia officially inaugurated 124 homes as part of the Appiatse reconstruction project.
After enduring the aftermath of such a tragedy, Appiatse, situated between Bogoso and Bawdie in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality of the Western Region, has undergone a remarkable transformation.
With over 120 housing units now completed, the farming community is embracing new hope and embarking on a fresh start, marking a significant milestone two years after the disaster.
The newly constructed residences, ranging from one-bedroom to seven-bedroom units, has upgraded amenities, including a market, six-unit classroom and kindergarten blocks, internal roads, water and electricity infrastructure, a drainage system, and water storage facilities.
