The Ghana Police Service has announced that it will be conducting special operations in Accra from September 21 to 24, 2024, resulting in significant traffic disruptions.
Key traffic changes include the closure of routes from the Central Business District (CBD) to Independence Avenue at the AU Roundabout. Vehicles will be redirected to Castle Road, leading to Ridge Roundabout and the Kanda Highway. Motorists can also access Gold House Traffic Light via these diversions.
Traffic from the AU Roundabout will have additional options, including turning towards the Second Avenue, connecting to Ring Road Central, and proceeding to Dankwa Circle.
For those traveling from Madina to Accra, diversions will guide them to terminate their journey at the 37 Roundabout, redirecting them to Obasanjo Highway and Dr. Liman Highway to reach the CBD.
Furthermore, the Presidential Drive behind TV3 will be closed at the Kanda Post Office Junction, and roadblocks will be implemented in front of Prudential Bank, affecting traffic from Ring Road towards TV3.
To assist with the diversions, officers from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) will be stationed at key points throughout the city. Pedestrians are encouraged to avoid the stretch between the AU Roundabout and 37 Roundabout during this time.
The police have assured the public that arrangements will be made to facilitate access to the 37 Military Hospital, TV3, and residential areas affected by the closures.
Motorists and pedestrians are urged to remain patient and cooperative as the police work to enhance security and order in the city. Further updates will be communicated through official channels.
