The Supreme Court is set to resume hearings today, Monday, November 11, on the case regarding vacant parliamentary seats, following an October 30 adjournment.
The case challenges the potential removal of four MPs who contested as independents in the last general election. During the previous session, Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo directed Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin to submit relevant documents by Wednesday, November 6, after his lawyer, Thaddeus Sory, sought additional time to consult with the Speaker and gather necessary instructions.
At that session, Attorney General Godfred Dame argued for excluding the Speaker from the proceedings, asserting that his office holds the constitutional authority to represent public officials in cases involving constitutional interpretation. Dame urged the court to proceed with addressing the constitutional issues without the Speaker’s involvement.
