We are told, no other love in the world, is like the love of a father for his little girl. They also say, in love to a wife, there is desire; to a son, ambition; but to a daughter, there is something which there are no words to express.
In some parts of the world, parents take their children to work for one day as part of an educational programme. It helps the children explore that space, while inspiring them to see the different roles required for specific jobs or projects.
But here in our part of the world, would you take your daughter to work as a husband because your wife is busy?
Some say yes some say no.
In a traditional Ghanaian home, it is deemed the norm for babies to be cared for by their mothers. A departure from this norm is Nana Yaw, a father of one, who says it’s fine to take his daughter to work on a Saturday morning, since it’s a bit flexible.
Speaking to RGG News, Nana Yaw says his wife was unwell, compelling him to step into the caregiving role, to give his wife some relief. So, he carried his almost one-year-old daughter with him, to work.
For him, balancing work and caring for his baby, is a herculean task. However, Nana Yaw says he is committed to the wellbeing of his daughter, saying she is his primary motivation.
“I take it upon myself as a father to fulfill the duties of a mother whenever my wife is unavailable,” Nana Yaw explained. “My daughter is my inspiration, and the support I receive from others encourages me to keep going.”he added.
While Nana Yaw acknowledges juggling childcare with work affects efficiency and productivity due to the often divided attention, he is quick to point out that his love for his daughter overshadows any obstacles encountered. Nana Yaw says, he will do what it takes to protect his baby and treat her like a princess. He says he will cherish these special moments forever.
