President Akufo-Addo has expressed his confidence in the development of roads and highways over the past seven years under his administration.
On the floor of parliament on Tuesday, he emphasized that roads and highways are being talked about a lot in the country now.
Acknowledging challenges, he stated that though generally, the people of Ghana may be impressed by the current state of the roads and highways, he stressed that it is insufficient to meet all needs and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continue such projects.
The President further stated that all works under roads and highways will be accessible by Ghanaians through the “performance tracker,” which is to be launched in March 2024.
The performance tracker is to promote transparency and accountability.
However, he noted temporary interruptions due to debt negotiations affecting major road works and assured Ghanaians of it being resolved.
Moreover, he highlighted the near completion of the standard gauge railway from Tema Port to Mpakadan in the Eastern Region with brand new multiple unit trains, development of a new standard gauge railway line in Takoradi, and construction of a rail bridge across the Volta.
President Akufo-Addo concluded by encouraging contractors to be devoted to the works they have been assigned.
