Historian and Lawyer Yaw Anokye Frimpong, says changing the name of the presidency from “Flagstaff House” back to “Jubilee House” is totally unnecessary.
He cautions that the country may lose its history if governments do not refrain from the habit of changing the name of the seat of government.
In an interview with RGG News’ Teye Kitcher on Insight, Yaw Anokye says the change of name does not preserve the country’s history.
He said the current Jubilee House was named ‘Flagstaff House’ when it became the military headquarters for the British Army in four colonies including Ghana, Gambia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone.
He says, that area has a significant historical background, and it must be preserved and not erased from the history books.
“The name Flagstaff House was retained by Osagyefo Dr. Nkrumah because that place has a significant historical background. So changing the name Flagstaff House to Jubilee House is soup without salt”, he said.
