President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is scheduled to unveil significant changes to his ministerial team today, Wednesday, February 14th, 2024. This highly anticipated move represents Akufo-Addo’s most significant ministerial reshuffle since assuming office in January 2017. As the 2024 elections draw near, the President is expected to make substantial adjustments by reassigning trusted individuals to different ministries and potentially removing some from the administration altogether.
According to reports, the new ministers are already preparing to meet with the president at the Jubilee House for a briefing before the official announcement. This reshuffle is expected to involve notable changes, including the replacement of Ken Ofori-Atta, a prominent government figure, due to pressure from party MPs. Other ministers expected to be replaced include the Health Minister, Kwaku Agyemang Manu, the Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Dr. Kwaku Afriyie, the Minister of Interior, Ambrose Dery, the Defense Minister, Dominic Nitiwul, and the Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Attah.
Sources at the Jubilee House indicate that the reshuffle aims to bolster the party’s position as the country approaches the December election. It involves replacing ministers who lost their parliamentary seats during party primaries or did not contest in their constituencies.
