President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has inaugurated the Urology and Nephrology Centre of Excellence at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, marking a major milestone in Ghana’s healthcare system.
The facility will provide essential services for patients with urological and nephrological conditions, including life-saving kidney transplants and advanced dialysis treatments.
Valued at €38 million, the project was funded through support from Raiffeisen Bank International AG of Austria and OeKB Group. President Akufo-Addo emphasized that the centre enhances access to quality healthcare and strengthens Ghana’s position as a hub for medical tourism in West Africa.
The state-of-the-art facility is equipped with modern technology, staffed by highly trained professionals, and designed to offer a comprehensive range of diagnostic, outpatient, and inpatient services. Additionally, it includes a post-construction maintenance programme to ensure its long-term sustainability.
The president highlighted his administration’s ongoing efforts to improve healthcare access nationwide, citing other key projects such as the Agenda 111 initiative and the nearing completion of the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital.
He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to ensuring healthcare for all Ghanaians, while also addressing progress in reducing maternal and child mortality rates as part of Ghana’s efforts to meet the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
President Akufo-Addo expressed gratitude to the financiers, contractors, consultants, and healthcare professionals involved in the project, urging all stakeholders to safeguard and maintain the facility for the benefit of future generations.
