President John Dramani Mahama has held bilateral discussions with General Abdourahamane Tchiani, Head of State of Niger and leader of the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland, focusing on security and economic cooperation between the two countries.
The talks centered on enhancing security collaboration in the Sahel and West African region to combat the growing threat of terrorism, as well as ensuring uninterrupted trade between Ghana and Niger.
“We also discussed the need for collaboration and recognition of the Alliance of Sahel States by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), and a renewed commitment to fighting terrorism, which threatens not only the Sahel region but also countries further down towards the coast,” President Mahama stated.
The meeting also explored ways to strengthen bilateral ties and foster regional stability amid concerns over insecurity in the Sahel.
