The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into an incident that unfolded at the premises of Metro TV in Accra on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.
The incident reportedly involved police officers and a court bailiff, who interrupted a live broadcast to enforce a court order concerning a debt owed by the station to Vodacom Business (Ghana) Limited.
Background to the Incident
The debt, allegedly outstanding for over three years, has led to legal action and the issuance of a writ of execution authorizing the seizure of assets. According to sources, the dispute stems from a private business matter and is unrelated to politics, despite public speculations.
During the operation, the bailiff, acting on the court order, sought to take possession of Metro TV’s assets. However, the station’s private security resisted the move, resulting in a tense standoff.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Police confirmed that their officers accompanied the court bailiff and representatives of Vodacom Business to enforce the court order.
The statement read:
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the officers were acting upon a court request to support the bailiff and the judgment creditor in executing the order.”
The Police assured the public of their commitment to a thorough investigation and called on the management and staff of Metro TV to remain calm and cooperate with authorities.
