The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has praised political parties, presidential candidates, and their supporters for their commendable conduct during the ongoing electoral process.
He described this election period as one of the most peaceful in Ghana’s history, marked by minimal tension and a near absence of violence. Speaking at the signing of the 2024 peace pact on Thursday, November 28, Dr. Dampare highlighted the collective efforts of candidates, supporters, and citizens in fostering an environment conducive to a smooth electoral process.
“Your conduct has significantly reduced tension and violence, making the electoral process less challenging for the Police Service,” he said, while urging all stakeholders to sustain their commitment to peace as the December 7 polls approach.
Dr. Dampare reaffirmed the Police Service’s unwavering dedication to ensuring peace, security, and the rule of law during the elections and beyond. He assured Ghanaians that the police would not be the source of any disturbances that could jeopardize the nation’s cherished peace.
“With this commitment, we want to let you know that we will not be the source of any disturbances that will corrupt the peace that we cherish so much,” he stated emphatically.
The IGP also urged all stakeholders to play their part in maintaining the country’s stability, cautioning against any actions that might undermine national peace.
He emphasized that the Police Service’s pledge to safeguard the electoral process was not merely rhetorical but a deliberate and resolute commitment.
