The Appointments Committee on Wednesday 20th December, 2023 sat to consider the president’s nominees to Supreme Court.
President Akufo-Addo, in a letter to Parliament dated October 11, 2023, highlighted the importance of promptly filling the vacancies which occurred as a result of the mandatory retirement of Justice Nene Abayeteye Ofoe Amegatcher on February 3, 2023, former Chief Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah on May 24, 2023, and Justice Jones Dotse on June 8, 2023
The three justices – Henry Anthony Kwofie, Yaw Darko Asare and Richard Adjei-Frimpong who are currently serving at the Court of Appeal were successfully vetted today to fill the vacant positions on the bench at the Supreme Court.
At the head of the Appointment’s Committee was the first Dep. Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei Owusu.
After some rounds of questioning, the nominees were given the release as they await the report of the vetting process.
The committee chairman said the decision will be taken after the committee receives reports from National Security and the National Intelligence Bureau.
