Mr Richard Ahiagbah, Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), recently expressed his dissatisfaction with the actions of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Mr. Ahiagbah believes the NDC has been impeding job creation and subverting the government’s fiscal policies through their actions.

On his social media platforms Mr Ahiagbah pointed at these issues. He noted that during a parliamentary session on Friday, the NDC presented Ghanaians with a difficult choice. They had to either forfeit a $449 million tax exemption as stipulated by Act 1083 or ensure the approval of a $300 million First Resilient Recovery Development Policy Financing, which is a budgetary support mechanism for 2024.
Mr Ahiagbah drew an analogy, comparing this decision to trading one’s mother for one wife or one father for one husband, effectively putting citizens in a no-win situation.

In his view, two critical issues require careful examination. Firstly, the $300 million World Bank facility, already approved as part of the 2024 budget, is intended to support policy implementation. However, the NDC’s obstructive tactics have held it hostage and raised questions about their motives. Secondly, by opposing tax exemptions that promote production and job growth, the NDC undermines the government’s sincere efforts to empower Ghanaian youth and foster economic recovery.

Mr. Ahiagbah expressed his concern about the situation, labelling NDC actions as “economic sabotage.” He emphasized that this dangerous politicking jeopardizes Ghana’s steady economic progress and threatens the NDC’s democratic reputation.

As the 2024 general elections approach, Mr. Ahiagbah urged Ghanaians to meticulously evaluate these tactics and hold the NDC accountable for their obstructive stance.
