The New Patriotic Party (NPP) , has scheduled its parliamentary primaries in constituencies where the party has sitting Members of Parliament (MPs).
In all, about 400 contenders picked up forms, out of which number 373 went through the vetting process and 326 were cleared to contest the parliamentary primaries.
In addition, 11 aspirants were disqualified, 2 persons did not appear before the vetting committee whilst 2 hopefuls voluntarily withdrew their candidature and 1 aspirant’s documents was said to be incomplete. Also, 2 applications have been referred to the National Executive Committee for further action.
Furthermore, 29 individuals have gone unopposed. Notable among them are Samuel Abu Jinapor, MP for Damongo and Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Ambrose Dery, MP for Nandom and Minister for the Interior, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, MP for Assin South and Deputy Minister for Education, Lydia Seyram Alhassan MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon and First Deputy Majority Chief Whip, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, MP for Bosomtwe and Minister for Education, Bryan Yaw Acheampong, MP for Abetifi and Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah, MP for Ejisu and a Deputy Minister for Finance and Mohammed Amin Adam MP for Karaga and Deputy Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance.
This is the final leg of the party’s internal election to elect parliamentary candidates to contest in the 2024 general election.
The election is scheduled for January 27, 2024.
