The Steering Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed gratitude to its executives, members, sympathizers, and volunteers for their dedication during the 2024 national campaign. In a statement issued after an emergency meeting on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, the Party acknowledged the disappointment over its electoral defeat but urged members to remain united and focused on future goals.
The NPP emphasized plans to regroup, re-strategize, and reorganize its internal processes. The Steering Committee has initiated consultations to evaluate the election outcome and chart a path forward. Members and sympathizers were encouraged to remain calm and offer constructive feedback to Party officials.
The statement, signed by NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, also condemned alleged violent activities by some members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC). It accused the NDC of using coercive tactics at Electoral Commission collation centers to influence parliamentary results in several constituencies, including Dome-Kwabenya, Tema Central, Nsawam-Adoagyiri, and Techiman South.
The NPP claimed that its parliamentary candidates and EC officials were threatened and forced to alter results in favor of the NDC. The Party also alleged incidents of vandalism, looting, and destruction of properties linked to its candidates, expressing concern over the perceived inaction of the Ghana Police Service in addressing these issues.
Calling for public condemnation of these alleged acts, the NPP reiterated its commitment to peace and democracy. The Party highlighted the concession by its presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as a patriotic move to defuse election-related tensions.
