The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of planning to disrupt the December 2024 elections through violence.
In a post on X, the NPP’s Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, referenced a viral video and a statement by the Ghana Police Service, which indicated they were on the lookout for individuals identifying as NDC Youth of Obuasi. The group, captured in the video, is allegedly seen threatening violence and vowing to intimidate the Electoral Commission (EC) during the elections.
Mr. Ahiagbah claimed the group’s actions were part of a broader agenda to undermine the electoral process and unlawfully declare the NDC victorious ahead of the official results.
He called on former President John Mahama and the NDC leadership to assist the police in apprehending those involved, stating that failing to do so would suggest an endorsement of violence.
“The NDC and John Mahama would be the ultimate beneficiaries of the promised violence. Therefore, they must facilitate the arrest and punishment of the culprits to deter copycats,” he wrote.
Mr. Ahiagbah emphasized the importance of ensuring peaceful elections, highlighting Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s flagbearer, as a symbol of peace.
