The National Peace Council (NPC) has called on political parties to adhere to legal processes and ensure the safety of participants involved in the delayed collation of election results at the Tesano Police Training School in Accra.
The NPC expressed awareness of the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to relocate the collation of results for three Eastern Region constituencies – Akwatia, Nsawam-Adoagyiri, and Fanteakwa North – from the regional to the national level. The move follows disruptions, destruction, and arson reported at other collation centres across the country.
Clarifying the situation, the NPC confirmed through its partners that the relocation to Tesano was initiated solely by the EC, with no involvement from political parties or the Ghana Police Service.
The Council urged all political party representatives to utilize available legal channels to address grievances and appealed to the EC to convene an emergency Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting to find a consensus-driven solution to the current impasse.
Additionally, the NPC commended the media for its role in ensuring transparency during the electoral process and encouraged continued diligent reporting on election-related activities.
