Politician and member of the Movement for Change, Hopeson Adorye, has been granted bail in the sum of 20 thousand cedis with two sureties by the Dansoman District Court. One of the sureties is to be justified. The defected member of the NPP was arrested Wednesday May 22, after allegations he made on air about contracting some five persons from the Volta region to throw dynamites along the Togo border prior to the 2016 general elections to scare voters from crossing to cast their votes.

Hopeson Adorye, before the Circuit Court in Dansoman, pleaded not guilty to the publication of false news. Mr. Adorye is said to have made the allegation, in an interview on May 2, 2024, on an Accra based radio station. Hopeson Adorye, is to report to the police once every week as part of his bail conditions. The prosecution led by Chief Inspector Christopher Wonder said investigations are ongoing and need the accused to assist in the investigations. The prosecutor said on his arrest, Mr Adorye allegedly admitted contents of the said interview and further said that fire crackers were used and not dynamites. Lawyer for the accused Yaw Buaben Asamoah, requesting for bail for the accused said the punishment for the offence is a fine or imprisonment less than two years. The legal team said the is a public figure with businesses and competent people to stand as sureties. The Magistrate Halimah EL-Alawa Abdul-Baasit, after hearing the parties ordered the prosecution to file disclosures within three weeks and adjourned to June 26. Mr Adorye was escorted in handcuffs back to the Ministries Police Station to execute his bail bond.
