Susan Aryeetey, the Executive Director of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA-Ghana), is attributing the limited presence of women in politics in the country to the setup of political party elections.
She stated that the monetization of political party elections marginalizes women.
“The system we have now does not allow women to go into politics because the monetization of our elections does not favour them”, she said.
In an interview with RGG News’ Teye Kitcher on Insight, Mrs Susan Aryeetey, said the growing financial demands of politics affect women, who may have limited access to the necessary funds and resources compared to their male counterparts.
“Funding is a big issue for women who are interested in politics unlike their male counterparts”, she said.
Madam Susan Aryeetey said there should be reforms and initiatives to address the issue of monetization in politics and promoting greater gender quality in the political arena.
She added that providing targeted support and resources for women running for political office can help address the financial challenges they encounter.
“Government must focus on the women too by providing them with the needed resources to ensure that women are given fair opportunities in the political arena”, she said.
