President John Mahama has commenced his ‘Good Neighbourliness’ Tour with a visit to Bamako, Mali, as part of engagements with the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) leaders.
He was received at Modibo Keita-Sénou International Airport by Mali’s Transitional President, General Assimi Goïta, before holding closed-door discussions at the presidential palace. The talks focused on bilateral cooperation and regional security following Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso’s withdrawal from ECOWAS.
Mahama’s visit, described as successful, is seen as a move to strengthen ties and foster dialogue with AES nations. His tour continues in Burkina Faso on Sunday before concluding in Niger on Monday.
