The ad hoc committee probing the leaked tape saga has concluded its investigations, says the ranking member of the committee and Member of Parliament (MP) for Builsa North Mr James Agalga.
He said a draft report has been prepared and was yet to be considered by all the committee members.
“The committee has concluded the investigations, and we have a draft report that is yet to be considered by all the members of the committee because, per the Standing Orders, draft reports are subject to approval by the members of the committee, so that is what is outstanding,” he said.
Mr Agalga further explained, the ongoing budget-related issues on the floor of parliament have prevented members of the committee from reconvening at the desired time to approve and adopt the report as required by the Standing Orders of the house.
He did, however, emphasise that the committee will meet once members have completed their budget estimates to finalise and adopt the report.
“Unfortunately, we are in the budget season and all the members are caught up in their various committees and are working on budget estimates. I had warned that there was a need for us to act expeditiously so that we could have skipped the budget season, but things did not happen that way so we are hoping that as soon as we are done with the budget estimates, we can convene and adapt the report,” he said.
On July 11 this year, a leaked tape surfaced, which involved a prominent police commissioner and some leaders of the governing New Patriotic Party plotting to remove the IGP.
According to the recording, the plotters perceive Dr Dampare as a potential obstacle to the party’s success in the 2024 elections.
This led to Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin directing the establishment of a seven-member ad hoc committee chaired by the MP for Abuakwa South, Mr Samuel Atta Akyea to investigate the leaked tape.
