Mr. Herbert Mensah, the man described by the renowned sports journalist Kwabena Yeboah as “the greatest leader he has ever met at the Porcupine Warriors,” is the best running mate for Dr. Bawumia because he appeals to the middle class, sports enthusiasts, the majority being the youth and objective voters. Herbert Mensah would be a game-changer for the NPP if he is picked as the running mate.
Have you thought about Herbert Mensah as the running mate for Dr. Bawumia? I doubt it, but ponder it. He is competent, charismatic, content-deep, knowledgeable, result-oriented, and a winner. One attribute that deserves to be singled out is that Herbert Mensah is a straight shooter; with him, you get what you voted for; his word is his bond.
Herbert Mensah is successful wherever he finds himself. As the board chair of the Asante Kotoko from 1999 to 2002, he set out to restore the club’s fortunes with a five-year plan. The five-year plan brought Kumasi Asante Kotoko back to winning ways, and the club became runners-up in the African Cup Winners’ Cup 2004 and achieved many more successes.
Beyond his football administration successes, Herbert Mensah is an astute and very successful businessman whose pairing with Dr. Bawumia will generate excitement among the grassroots and Ghanaians because of who he is and what he has achieved for himself. He would deliver Ashanti Region, the party’s stronghold, better than any of the Ashanti hopefuls canvassing to be running mate.
Herbert Mensah comes from a family of accomplished entrepreneurs; therefore, he knows how to create opportunities for others to make a living. His father, Mr Benjamin Mensah, is an accomplished industrialist who established Asante Kente Yarns in 1960, a company he registered as Textile Spinning Works Limited. By 1975, he was the leading supplier of Kente Yarns in Ghana. Mr. Benjamin Mensah later set up the International Tobacco Ghana Limited (ITG) in 1975.
Like his father, Mr. Herbert Mensah is a successful businessman with widespread success in the telecommunications sector. His enterprise experience is relevant to Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy because the significant challenge facing the next government is youth unemployment, and he has the expertise, business acumen, and international connections to influence favorable trade negotiation outcomes and deals for Ghana.
Corruption is one major problem in the minds of many Ghanaians. After many years of being in sports administration and leadership, Herbert Mensah has conducted himself above reproach. He has no record of corruption, nor has he conducted himself in ways that suggest that he is corrupt. His integrity and honesty will resonate with Ghanaians to trust and vote for the NPP in 2024.
In sum, Herbert Mensah may not be the lead person to be considered as the running mate, but he is the one Dr. Bawumia needs to win in 2024. People may argue this all day, but in the end, the Bawumia & Herbert pair is a winning ticket because Ghanaians want something new: a straight shooter, pragmatist, and a winner. Now, that is a person Ghana should crave.
