The Health Services Workers’ Union (HSWU) of TUC (Ghana) has issued a warning to the government over stalled negotiations to update its collective agreement with health sector agencies.
According to HSWU representatives, the union’s members, who include a wide range of non-clinical health staff under the Ministry of Health, have been awaiting a revised agreement since November 2023.
Despite submitting proposals to the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission a year ago, talks that began in May 2024 have reportedly failed to yield results. HSWU’s statement highlights that numerous meetings with government representatives have yet to achieve a breakthrough, and union members are now losing patience amidst rising economic pressures.
The union has set a deadline for the government, demanding that outstanding issues be resolved by Monday, November 11, 2024, or it may take “further action in a language that the government best understands.” The HSWU leadership urged its members to stay calm and trust in the union’s leadership as they navigate the situation.
